Gregor Zemljič is a teacher at SAE In Ljubljana (www.sae.edu). He has the ability to explain the concepts of music theory very clearly, and that's why I feature his video's on my website. In this series, he answers questions which were send in beforehand.

These videos are being brought to you by SAE Ljubljana. For more of their videos, click here to subscribe to their channel on YouTube. Check out Gregor Zemljič's mastering company Earresistable on www.earresistible-mastering.com.

In episode one he explains low end control. Tune your kicks and use the right filters! If you like this episode, you might also want to check out this article I wrote about bass earlier.

Part two is about mid-range. And just as everything in life: it depends. He does advice you to use 3-way speakers to balance the mid-range.

Good vocals start with a good singer, that's what he points out in part three. But in vocal recording, you need more than just a good singer. How do you get the best recording? How do you process vocals?

In part 4, Gregor discusses the subject everyone has troubles with: Making the Synths Big. He has some very unique tips for that, and you can use it on claps too. Also, he explains how to make your synths mono-compatible.

Part 5: Do you ever get stuck when producing beats? There's a good change you may have too many sounds. Gregor Zemljič will help you to create a collection of only the best samples!

Part 6: Do loss of punch, distortion, red meters sound familiar? You probably made yourself a victim of gain staging. This video is clearly more technical than the others, but still easy to follow. Must watch!

And finally, how do make things loud? Use only the energy that is relevant to the sound. According to him, an equalizer is the most important tool of a producers. How do you use a highpass filter? How to EQ a sound? A loud tracks starts with a good mix!
